1964   I am born in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

1966    My family moves to Chicago.

1970   I fake a stomach ache and get sent home from school. I am convinced that God is punishing me for my lie when I smash my finger in the door.

1973   I ask my parents “What are we?” only to find out the horrible truth: we are nothing.

1976   I am forced to go on a 2-week camping trip in the Canadian woods. No toilets, no beds, food from foil packs. . . I survive.

1977   I move to New York City. Star Wars is released.

1979-1982  I attend the HS of Music and Art in New York City. Fame is filmed there during my sophomore year.

1985  I leave for my junior semester abroad in Italy. While in Italy I avoid going into churches.

1985-1986  I return from Italy and live with Greg and 3 others students. Greg and I go out. We graduate from Vassar in June and move to Boston.

1987   We live in Boston. We go to Red Sox games, root for the Celtics, and go to the North End for the calamari linguini. I move to New York in June.

1988   Greg and I go to California to attend his sister’s wedding. She and her husband are joined in Jesus. I feel like an outsider at the reception because I want a drink and don’t say grace.

1989   Greg and I get married after almost breaking up. His sister prays for my salvation.

1990   We move to DC. My sister-in-law and her husband tell me that I am wrong for not believing that Jesus is my personal savior.

1991-1992  I attend American University for a graduate degree in painting.

1992   We move to New Hampshire. It snows 100 inches.

1994   Amelia is born. Two weeks later we move to NYC.

1996   We buy our first house in Brooklyn.

1997   Victor is born. I go to work for the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

1999   We buy a larger house in Brooklyn. I send Amelia to the public school on the corner.

2000   I lose my bid for PTA president because my opponent brings cheesecake to the election meeting.

2001   I have a fight with Greg’s sister and brother-in-law and a fight with my mother. These fights last three years.

9/11/2001  The worst day of my life

2002   I decide to write a book. I run for PTA president again, and this time I prevail.

2003  I rewrite the book, now titled Nothing. I have a second term as PTA president.

2004   I send out 75 letters to try to get my book published and am appointed to Community Board 6 in Brooklyn to help solve neighborhood issues.

2005   I get 50 rejection letters, 23 no answers, 1 maybe, and 1 yes.

2006  We get a dog. I start to write my second book, Tiny Human Dramas.

2007  Nothing: Something to Believe In  is released in March.
